Richard Arias-Hernández has been teaching in the BMS program since its inception in 2014 and was Acting Program Chair of the BMS in 2018-19 and in 2021-22. An Associate Professor of Teaching at the School of Information who teaches on information systems, data analytics, information visualization, and human-information interaction, Richard is currently working in curriculum research and development to train information professionals (e.g., archivists, record managers, librarians, etc.) to apply artificial intelligence and machine learning to their work.

Richard currently teaches INFO 250: Networks, Crowds, and Communities and INFO 419: Information Visualization with the BMS program
