The Media Studies Student Association (MSSA) aims to foster a community in the Bachelor of Media Studies program. The MSSA showcases the diversity of our students, and provides opportunities for personal, professional, and academic growth. By connecting with organizations involved in new media, we can inform about the unique BMS program and support students through their journey.
MSSA Executive Board 2021 – 2022
The MSSA holds annual general meetings once a year in March to elect new members of the executive board. BMS students are encouraged to attend the MSSA annual general meeting to stay informed on issues throughout the media studies community at UBC.
As Co-President of MSSA, Ananya acts as one of the liaisons for the AMS Student Administrative Commission (SAC) and collaboratively runs MSSA general and executive meetings. By being an internal and external representative of MSSA, she collaborates with the executive team to foster a closer community within the BMS program.

As VP Internal, Claire communicates between all executives, coordinates meetings among the executive board, and manages the task assignment and delegation. During meetings, Claire also keeps a record of meeting minutes for future reference.

As VP Marketing, Evens leads MSSA’s marketing team and strategizes ways to increase online engagement and reach while fostering a sense of community online.

As VP Events, Vidushy works on the logistics for events hosted by MSSA for the BMS students. Vidushy also collaborates with all the executives to plan and come up with new ideas for events.

As the AUS representative, Jodie attends the weekly AUS council meetings to inform the council on the MSSA’s current and future plans. She also reports back to the MSSA executives on AUS incentives and collaborative events with other departmental clubs. As the First-Year representative, Jodie acts as a liaison between the First-Year cohort in the BMS program and the MSSA executive team. She is responsible for informing First-Year students of upcoming social events and opportunities relevant to Media Studies throughout the academic year.

As a Marketing Assistant, Naomi works closely with the VP Marketing and assists with creating graphic designs and social media posts for event promotion. She also gathers content for the MSSA newsletter and provides ideas for marketing initiatives.

- To gain work (club) experience and be more involved with the BMS program and its students. The Media Studies Student Association was a great mesh between both worlds.

- I really appreciate the malleability of the team when it comes to experimentation. While working with MSSA, I’ve had the opportunity to explore different roles and develop my experience (in team settings, website development, marketing, etc.) through constructive feedback and team collaboration.
As a Marketing Assistant, Jueun supports the marketing team in their content creation and the organization of various promotional campaigns for MSSA initiatives. Jueun is delighted to help build a sense of community among her peers in the Bachelor of Media Studies program through social media engagement and social activities.
