In response to the awards, Angelica remarked:
“It’s a huge privilege that I’ve been chosen for this designation. There are a lot of folks who have helped me, built me up and propelled me to be able to organize within UBC. Their support has been instrumental and I am deeply grateful for the graciousness of platform, help and resources I have received. As the first Media Studies student to receive this award, I hope this program continues to be highlighted as one that is necessary reaction to our modern climate which is actively using alternative media, social media and internet activism to demand the presence of justice. Media Studies has given me the opportunity to study the access of information, the perspectives in which stories are told and to hone in on my fusion of art and activism. I am honoured for this work to be recognized by the university.”
Congratulations, Angelica! We look forward to seeing your personal and academic growth in the future.
